Delta: Pirates kills mother, son

Tragedy struck at a fishing camp along
Ekologbene creek of Ayakoromo
community, Burutu Local Government Area
of Delta State, when a woman and her son
were shot dead by men suspected to be
pirates.
According to reports, the bandits, who came
in a 200-horsepower speedboat attacked
the pair who were preparing to embark on
an evening fishing expedition, pointing a
gun to the head of the woman, barking at
her to hand over money she had on her.
However, her son didn’t like the way she
was being handled by the hoodlums and
decided to engage them in a brawl but that
only angered the bandits who reportedly
shot the woman identified as Mrs. Anetorofa
Morkor and her son, Doutimi Asaba to
death and threw their bodies in the river.

Giving details of the incident, a witness
said; “While I was being frisked, others
went to an adjourning camp where the
victims were. Angered by the way his
mother was being manhandled, the son
engaged the hoodlums in a brawl, which
resulted to both of them being shot.”
Reacting to the incident, the National
President of Ijaw Peoples Development
Initiative, Mr. Austin Ozobo, who hails from
the area said; “The corpses have been
recovered from the river. There was no
crisis in the community before the killings.

We are shocked by this senseless killings
and the community has been thrown into
tension.”
However, the State Police Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, said he had
no knowledge about the incident as he had
not been briefed as at the time of this
report.
