Be firm against hate speech, ACF tells federal government

The Arewa Consultative Forum has called on the
federal government to be firm and assert it’s
authority against those who have continued to
make hate speeches in the country.
In a statement marking this year’s Eid
celebration marking the end of fasting by
Muslims across the world, the forum called on
Nigerians to embrace peace and continue to
pray for the peace affinity of the country.
The statement which was signed by Mohammed
Ibrahim Biu, the publicity secretary of the Forum
also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for
the quick recovery of president Muhammad
Buhari who has been in a London hospital for
over fifty days.
Part of the statement reads: “In the spirit of the
season, ACF calls on Nigerians to embrace
peaceful dialogue as the most civilized means to
address grievances, rather than engage in hate
speeches of threats and intimidation, that have
unfortunately been trying to polarize us along
tribal, regional and religious divides.
The ACF also wants to use this opportunity to
commend the Federal Government for its
proactive approach which douse the tension
created by the Biafra agitators and the
subsequent quit notice issued by the Northern
Youth groups. The consultations held with the
various groups leaders and other stakeholders
from the North and South East for the purpose of
promoting unity and peaceful coexistence was
appropriate and timely.
“Unfortunately, ACF has observed with concern
that the hate messages from the agitators have
continued unabated. ACF therefore, urges
Federal Government to be firm and assert its
authority, and ensure that the law takes its full
course on those who considers themselves
above the law” the statement concluded.
